News from Nepal!

Dear helpers, friends and interested parties,

As you know from our last newsletters, we have been planning to open a youth center in the village of Kaule for some time.

We have some great news in this regard that we don't want to withhold from you. To get you thinking, here is some more information about the idea of the youth center.

How did the idea come about?

When Louisa and I were in the village of Kaule for the first time in 2016, two classrooms were being built at the village's elementary school. At the time, the school had been so badly damaged by the two earthquakes in spring 2015 that these rooms were urgently needed. Four years later, the school moved to another building and expanded significantly. As a result, our two rooms were initially unused and also unkempt. The idea of a youth center came up during discussions on the conversion of the rooms. This was received very positively by the Nepalese side. In Nepal, the concept of youth centers is largely unknown. At the same time, there are hardly any public meeting places for children and young people. From our own experience, we can also say that the children in the village of Kaule mainly play on the streets and many children have no access to books, toys or creative materials.

It was therefore important to us to create a space that belongs to the children. This idea buzzed around in our heads for several years. In addition to funding, implementing on site was a major challenge. With the help of Leonie, a volunteer from Germany, the two rooms have finally been transformed into a youth center.

IMPLEMENTING THE IDEA

At the end of last year, Leonie came across our association by chance and contacted us. She is an interior designer and agreed to take on the project.

In February of this year, she traveled to Kaule to transform two rather unkempt rooms into a youth center for the children and young people in Kaule. In three weeks of intensive work, redesigned the rooms together with our project coordinator Sita.

Review 2024

Dear helpers, friends and interested parties,

We are very pleased to inform you that our most recent project to provide the pupils at the school in Kaule with healthy lunches - has now been running successfully for over a year. This milestone is anything but a matter of course for us, as financing this project with around 500 euros a month is a huge task for us as a small association. This has only been possible thanks to your continuous help and generous support. We would like to thank all donors for this! You are great!

We are also particularly proud of the fact that this project has enabled us to create two jobs in the village of Kaule. Thanks to your support, the cook Rina and the project coordinator Sita have been given a permanent job. We would also like to thank you on their behalf!

News from Kaule

A new school year began in Nepal in August. With the start of the new school year, the number of pupils in grades 7-10 has risen from 82 to a total of 97 at.

This means that we will be funding an additional 15 lunches a day this school year. This change will result in additional costs of around 90 euros per month. Nevertheless, we are optimistic that, with your help, we will be able to put the project on a secure footing for this school year too.

In addition to funding the lunches, the expansion of the youth center in the village of Kaule is particularly important to us. The premises have already been prepared for this. These are the two classrooms, which were built in 2016 during our first trip to Nepal. These two rooms marked the beginning of our support in the village of Kaule and the founding of the association. As the rooms are currently no longer used by the school,it is very important to us to give them a new purpose as a youth center for the children and young people of the village.

In addition to comfortable furnishings, the main aim is to create creative and sporting activities. In addition, the rooms are to become a contact point for educational offers in the area of health and environmental education.

Donations are still needed to realize this project.
